Public Announcement Regarding Protest of AB 74 @ Fiona Ma’s NYE Event

Hello Everyone!

Thank you all SO much for your phone calls, e-mails, letters and support in stopping AB 74.

Your voices have been heard and just today we met with Assemblywoman Fiona Ma and her staff to discuss the bill and the issues.

Ma has agreed to put the bill on hold so that we can create a Task Force with the stakeholders and the community to develop “Best Practices” for Raves and other EDM Events.  Ma and her team are ready to work with the community and ensure a transparent and inclusive process.

This is great news for our community and we no longer need to hold a protest to get their attention.  We have been recognized by our elected representatives and we are going to actively work with them to make sure our community is represented and our voices are heard!

In January we will begin having open Save The Rave meetings for folks who would like to come down and give their input and join in the cause.  There is still a lot of work ahead in order to ensure that the process will reflect the needs of our community.  AB74 being put on hold is just the beginning of a process that we need to stay involved in! 

The “Save the Rave” organizers have decided that there is not a need at this moment to protest Assemblywoman Ma’s NYE party.  For those of you who may still plan to protest her event we urge you to re-consider as she is taking active steps to listen to the community.  If you do decide to go we ask that you please remember to be peaceful and respectful.  That is the best way to show that we need to be taken seriously.

Regarding the “Hold” on AB 74

Hi Everyone! We just wanted to post an update to let you all know that we are ACTIVELY working on the issues regarding the “hold” of AB 74. There is a lot going on and we aren’t ready to make any announcements yet but a call to action is coming soon! Fiona Ma says she will put AB 74 on “Hold”

Fiona Ma has announced that she is putting AB 74 on hold!!  This is great news, but this issue is not over yet! We will be in touch once we have more information. Thank you all SO much for your support and pressure! The power of the people WORKS!! Let’s keep it up!!

Volunteer Safety Monitors Needed!

We are seeking volunteer “Safety Monitors” for the peaceful demonstration that is coming this friday, NYE (official announcement coming asap). If you would like to donate your time to help keep this event safe please write to volunteer@savetherave.org No protest experience necessary though it is preferred. Sobriety is mandatory. Tell us about yourself and apply!  (Hours approx 7 – 9:30pm)

Oppose the New Rave Act (AB74)

Assemblywoman Fiona Ma proposed legislation yesterday to ban large electronic music events in California.  In her own words “The introduction of AB 74 is the first step toward eliminating these dangerous events”.  Read the full text of the proposed legislation at the end of this email.

Fiona Ma’s legislation is just one part of a larger agenda by the police and policy makers to shut down electronic music events in California.  Our music and culture is being discriminated against and if we don’t stand up and fight, they will succeed.

Save The Rave is a group of electronic music supporters who are organizing to fight anti-electronic music policy through lobbying, protests and other peaceful actions.
