SaveTheRave.Org presents:
A Special Hearing on Electronic Dance Music Events in San Francisco
Sponsored by the SF Entertainment Commission and SF Youth Commission
We need YOU to come down to City Hall and speak out or make a presence March 22nd, 2011
• This hearing is in response to the discrimination that electronic dance music events have been facing.
• We are tired of our events being shut down, having hours reduced or being treated as criminal.
• This is our chance to finally speak out about the importance of dance music culture to City Officials and Elected Representatives.
• By packing City Hall with people demanding change, we CAN and WILL make a difference in the policy and politics that impact us!
• This is going to be a historical event. Be a part of changing the future and protecting our right to dance!
Bring all your friends, a positive attitude and a 2 minute speech about why edm events are important to you.
Tuesday, March 22nd 2011 – City Hall, 7:30pm – Room 400
Please join us at our next meeting on Wednesday, February 16th at 134 Golden Gate Ave (SF) – 7pm. We will be gearing up for the big hearing at SF City Hall (coming soon!) jointly held by the Youth and Entertainment Commissions. RSVP to info@savetherave.org Thanks!
Please come by our public meeting tonight @ 134 Golden Gate Ave in San Francisco. Meet and Greet starts at 6:30pm and business begins at 7. Please RSVP to info@savetherave.org if you are coming by. Thanks!
The Entertainment Commission voted unanimously last night to proceed with our proposal for a joint hearing with the Youth Commission! This means we will need ALL OF YOU to come down to SF City Hall very soon and speak out about the importance of Raves and EDM events in San Francisco!
We will post the hearing date and time just as soon as we have it scheduled. We anticipate sometime in the end of January.
This is a MASSIVE step forward and we will need ALL OF YOU to come down to City Hall for it and make your voices heard!!
Hello friends!
Thank you so much for being a part of Save The Rave! The support and energy from the community is inspiring and we are grateful for all of your actions and attention so far.
There has been a lot of confusion over AB 74 that we’d like to help clear up. The bill is on “hold” at the moment, not moving forward but also still alive. The “hold” is fantastic, and is a direct result of our combined efforts: calling, e-mailing and joining together to send a strong message that we will NOT allow our community to be discriminated against.
Assemblywoman Ma has since reached out to us and invited us to help educate her, other legislators and the public on what our community really stands for and how we can work together to the benefit of our community and address issues such as: harm-reduction, drug education and “best practices” for dance music events.
This communication and work will occur through a series of stakeholder meetings with folks from all sides. The results of those meetings will be used to either amend AB 74 into a very different bill or will lead to the creation of new legislation altogether. If the results are not satisfactory we will need to rise up again to stop AB 74. If the results are positive then we can celebrate the crafting of new legislation that would help improve our events and keep our community safe and vibrant!
If you would like to be a part of this process, please come to one of our open Save The Rave meetings and become a member. (Meeting information listed below)
It is also VERY important that you know we are concurrently working on related issues in the City of San Francisco regarding the way electronic music events are discriminated against by the police and policy makers. We are working on setting up a massive joint hearing at City Hall with the Youth Commission and the Entertainment Commission to allow for these issues to be brought forth and for the community to come and speak out!! We have already been to the Youth Commission and they have agreed so we are going to the Entertainment Commission next and seeking their support. If approved, we anticipate this important hearing to take place in the end of January or February. We will need ALL OF YOU to show up for that!!
The best way for you to get involved is to join Save The Rave and begin coming to our public meetings, the first of which is scheduled for Tuesday, January 18th in San Francisco (134 Golden Gate Avenue – 6:30pm). Anyone is welcome to come and after your second consecutive meeting you can become a voting member and help us craft our work!
In the meantime keep spreading the word, follow this process (and get your friends involved too!) Sign up for our e-mail list, FB group/page and Twitter (if you haven’t already done so!) We will keep everyone posted every step of the way and always welcome new hands and voices to help out!
Thank You!!

WHAT: Entertainment Commission Meeting
WHEN: Tuesday, January 11th – 6:30pm
WHERE: SF City Hall – Room 400
Save The Rave will be making a presentation to the SF Entertainment Commission on the State of Youth Events, AB 74 and urging them to agree to a joint hearing with the Youth Commission on these subjects.
This is the second step towards the goal of holding a massive gathering down at City Hall for the public to come and speak out about the need to protect EDM and other Youth Oriented events in San Francisco. That hearing will be to put the word out to the media, policy makers and the police that our culture is vital and needs to be respected and protected!
This is larger than just AB 74. This is about the need for government to support our culture and not shut down events like LovEvolution, parties at the Bill Graham Civic, The Cow Palace and events on Port Property, Golden Gate Park etc.
If you’d like to come and just show your support by being there or speak at public comment about why these events are important to you and are positive for the community, then PLEASE COME DOWN AND JOIN US!
Please RSVP to Info@SaveTheRave.org
Thank You!
– Save The Rave will be going to the Youth Commission this Monday, January 3rd to seek their help in protecting EDM events in San Francisco.
– The Youth Commission represents all persons aged 12-23 who live in San Francisco. They have helped with entertainment regarding young adults in the past.
– STR’s goal for this meeting is to enlist the help of both the Youth Commission and Entertainment Commission to hold a joint hearing for the community to come speak out on the importance of rave and edm events! We will be going to the Entertainment Commission seperately later this month (tba).
– This is the first step in the process involving our City Government. If you would like to be a part of this process, you are welcome and ENCOURGAED to! Especially if you are between the ages of 18-23!
– The meeting is this coming monday, January 3rd at 5:15pm in room 416 at City Hall. Please rsvp to info@savetherave.org so we can make sure everyone is accommodated.
Thank you for your continued support!
Hello Everyone!
Thank you all SO much for your phone calls, e-mails, letters and support in stopping AB 74.
Your voices have been heard and just today we met with Assemblywoman Fiona Ma and her staff to discuss the bill and the issues.
Ma has agreed to put the bill on hold so that we can create a Task Force with the stakeholders and the community to develop “Best Practices” for Raves and other EDM Events. Ma and her team are ready to work with the community and ensure a transparent and inclusive process.
This is great news for our community and we no longer need to hold a protest to get their attention. We have been recognized by our elected representatives and we are going to actively work with them to make sure our community is represented and our voices are heard!
In January we will begin having open Save The Rave meetings for folks who would like to come down and give their input and join in the cause. There is still a lot of work ahead in order to ensure that the process will reflect the needs of our community. AB74 being put on hold is just the beginning of a process that we need to stay involved in!
The “Save the Rave” organizers have decided that there is not a need at this moment to protest Assemblywoman Ma’s NYE party. For those of you who may still plan to protest her event we urge you to re-consider as she is taking active steps to listen to the community. If you do decide to go we ask that you please remember to be peaceful and respectful. That is the best way to show that we need to be taken seriously.
Please continue to stay in touch as this is just the beginning!
